The programme is implemented through three different overall activities:
1. Workshops: The youth meet twice a month to participate in a wide variety of activities. These include: football training and games, community outreach, teambuilding, drug and crime prevention, debating and various outings such as hikes. In addition the young leaders gain coaching and facilitating skills as they progress through the four step module.
2. Camps: During the year the group go on overnight camps. The camps aim to provide the foundation for all the leadership activities being conducted. The camps focus on team building, life-skills sessions, breaking apart preconceptions and giving youth a wider experience and greater understanding of the world around them.
3. Trips: By the end of 2010 AMANDLA hopes to have conducted three Youth Leadership Trips:
- Trip to Europe, 2011;
- Trip to Johannesburg, South Africa, December 2008;
- Trip to Durban and the Eastern Cape, South Africa, December 2007.
AMANDLA's target demographic is youth staying in residential childcare facilities in South Africa. Exact figures on how many youth are currently placed in residential facilities is not available. However, according to the Children Count ZA institute 18.6% of all children in South Africa are orphaned which does not include children in need of care due to alternative circumstances.
