On the 9th of August, AMANDLA EduFootball hosted an event in celebration of Women’s Day at the Chris Campbell Memorial Field.
The event aimed to celebrate and empower local girls and women by allowing them to develop both football and life skills and was attended by more than 130 girls from all over Cape Town who regularly participate in the Girls’ League as well as over 40 local women.
In the morning, participants alternated between attending workshops and going through life skills sessions related to nutrition and safe food preparation, hygiene, gender violence, relationships, and stereotypes.
The afternoon was devoted to a five-a-side football tournament and at the end of the day TTG took first place after a heated match against Covenant.
Thanks to everyone who came to support and celebrate this fantastic day with us!
AMANDLA's target demographic is youth staying in residential childcare facilities in South Africa. Exact figures on how many youth are currently placed in residential facilities is not available. However, according to the Children Count ZA institute 18.6% of all children in South Africa are orphaned which does not include children in need of care due to alternative circumstances.
