AMANDLA EduFootball celebrates the 2011 season!

Cape Town, Saturday the 29th of October 2011:

Last Saturday marked the End of Season Event for the boys involved in the 11-a-side Fair Play football leagues this year. Over 300 children from 18 different institutions came together in Cape Town’s Athlone Stadium for a fun filled day to celebrate their achievements and to provide one last get together before the break.

The morning’s activities were split into two workstations which consisted of a pratical Life-Skill session and a monitor and evaluation session.

In the M & E workstation participants were asked a series of short questions about their experience in the AMANDLA programmes this year. This will allow a first person insight into the way the programme is affecting the children and will hopefully lead to an even better service delivery next season.

The other workstation was a high energy Life-Skills session implemented by some of our trained Youth Development through Football coaches. The focus of the session was teamwork, which is a crucial component of this programme as a whole. Participants took part in numerous activities as part of the session that aimed to promote teamwork and cooperation within the integrated groups.

After all the participants had completed both workstations they were seated in the main stand of the stadium for the prestigious awards ceremony. Each team that took part in the Fair Play Football League was awarded with a certificate of participation; whilst the winners of the league, cup and Fair Play league were awarded with medals and cups for their efforts.

This was a fitting way to end a very successful season which had 28 active teams spanning 3 age groups of Under 12, Under 15 and Under 19.

Thanks again to all the staff and most importantly the children that took the time and effort to be part of this programme and I look forward to welcoming you all back for an even better season next year!
